Nearing Queenstown, July 27, 1871.President Albert Carrington.
Dear Brother--Yesterday we had a very pleasant afternoon and evening, fine, with a comparatively smooth sea and a fresh head breeze. A few of the sisters and others soon became seasick. This is a beautiful morning, the sea much the same, with a head breeze. The Welsh Coast was visible till late last night, and the Irish Coast from early this morning. Everything appears to be going on agreeably, seasickness excepted.
Last night a meeting was held in the steerage, and the Saints were addressed by Elder Lot Smith and others, some excellent instructions being given upon matter pertaining to the welfare of the company upon the journey. A captain of the guard, chaplain, and other officers were appointed.
Wishing you health and prosperity in your mission, I remain your brother in the gospel,
J. Jaques [p.491]
