. . . My mother & sisters came with me to see me off at the station who thought me very unwise to start so long a journey being so sick. However, I bid them adieu and arrived at Liverpool about 1 o'clock p.m. where I found my way to President Carrington's office & learned there how I should get home. Here I felt quite sick & unable to walk one mile.
But, however, [p. 94] on Wednesday, Oct 16th, I started on board the steamship Minnesota for home.
On Friday night & Saturday of Oct 19th & 20th we experienced some rough weather, so much so that the water got down in the steerage 2 feet & for some time alarmed the passengers.
The balance of the journey we experienced headwinds & considerable rolling of the ship. My health was quite as good as I could expect considering my state [p. 95] of health when I left Liverpool. The first 4 or 5 days I was very sick but having taken cabin passage made it go a little better, & altogether had a fair time crossing the ocean for which I felt very thankful.
We arrived in New York on Tuesday a.m. 8 o'clock of Oct 29.
On Wednesday at 7 p.m. we started on the cars for Utah Oct 31. We had good weather all the way home. I was in company with 202 Saints, [p. 96] also Elders W. H.[W.B.] Kelsey, Ralph Harrison, & Oliver G. Snow, & Thomas Dobson from Utah. We had a good time and fair health as a whole, arriving in Ogden on Wednesday night of Nov 6 at 10 p.m., at Salt Lake City some night at 10 a.m. My health, of course, had improved considerable from the time I left Liverpool until I reached Salt Lake City. Here I stayed 1 day and night & then took train for Springville [p. 97] on Friday Nov 8. Here I met my wife as per telegraph of the terminus of the railroad. I then took wagon for home. I arrived at 5 p.m. and found all well, thus ended my mission to England. [p. 98] [END OF JOURNAL]
