May 1841. Under the preaching of Elders Hyde Snow I became convinced of the truth of the everlasting gospel I was baptized by Elder Alban and confirmed by Lorenzo Snow. Was ordained a priest shortly afterwards in Knight Chapel Goswell Road London. And soon commenced my labors in the vineyard according to my calling. I preached in the streets of London. The parks & open grounds where opportunity offered. And felt much pleasure in proclaiming the truths of heaven to my fellow man. And the Lord followed my words by his holy spirit upon the hearts of many of my hearers. So that numbers were added to the church in my field of labor. My labors extended to Woolwich and Bedford and other places, until I was appointed to leave England the land of my birth to obey the call of heaven in gathering to the body of the church in Nauvoo. Having sailed from Liverpool in the ship Medford Elder Orson Hyde president over the Saints in the same, who was on his return from his mission to Jerusalem. We had a good passage, and arrived safe in New Orleans. Left thence in a steamer for St. Louis called "Alex Scott" and located ourselves at Alton about 25 miles above St. Louis for the winter in consequence of severe weather and in May 1842 arrived in Nauvoo. . . .
