Off Queenstown Sept. 3, 1874.President Joseph F. Smith
Dear Brother,--Soon after parting with you and others of our brethren yesterday, and immediately after the Wyoming began to move, we proceeded to complete the berthing of the people and to organize the company into wards. For the latter purpose we called the Saints together, who voted unanimously to sustain the brethren who were placed in charge. The First Ward is presided over by Elder James Barnes, late of the London Conference, and Elder John Crane, late of the Sheffield Conference, as captain of the guard.
The Second Ward is presided over by Elder William Burton, late of the Nottingham Conference, with Elder James Williamson, late of Liverpool Conference, as captain of the guard. The Third Ward (Scandinavian) is in the charge of Elder O. [Oluf] J. Anderson [Andersen], and the Fourth (also Scandinavian) in the charge of Elder J. Normann [Norrmann], with Elder E.[J.] A. Nyrehn as captain of the guard for both these wards.
Soon after we got fairly out of the Mersey, the wind began to blow quite fresh, and did not abate in the least during the night, the sea being of course somewhat rough, in consequence. Seasickness is prevailing, quite a number complaining. We arrived here (at Queenstown) at 12:30—will write from New York.
With kind love to all, in which the rest of the elders on board join, we remain, your brethren in the gospel,
John C. Graham,N. [Nils] P. Lendelof [Lindelof],R. W. Heyborne. [p.572]
