Queenstown, May 25th, 1890.President George Teasdale.
Beloved Brother,--We take joy in submitting a few lines for your perusal relative to our journey across the great deep.
We set sail shortly before one o'clock yesterday, and thus far we have enjoyed our journey Zionward very much. Immediately after dinner the brethren convened in counsel; some very valuable and timely words [p.349] of instruction were imparted by President [John H.] Hayes. All the Saints afterwards assembled in the steerage. We sang a hymn, then offered prayer dedicating the vessel unto the Lord. The Saints were exhorted to cleanliness in all things, and to conduct themselves as true disciples of the Lord Jesus. We then proceeded to divide the company into wards, placing an elder in charge of each ward to assist them in times of sickness, trusting by so doing, to be of service to our dear brethren and sisters in the covenant, and thus make the journey Zionward as pleasant and agreeable as possible.
The weather, so far, has been lovely, and sailing has been very enjoyable. With the exception of one or two cases of seasickness all are feeling well in health, and rejoice in the happy privilege of gathering to the promised land.
May God continue his blessings to us, and speed the good ship Wisconsin. With love and blessing to yourself and all at "42" [42 Islington WAS THE ADDRESS OF THE BRITISH MISSION IN LIVERPOOL] and the Saints generally throughout the British Isles.
We remain your brethren in the covenant,
John H. Hayes,Henry Tilley,Thomas D. Brown,Joseph Eckersley, secretary. [p.350]
