. . . I was called to the Liverpool conference, and labored with Elder Isaac J. Riddle, until I was released to gather to Zion, and sailed on the good ship Wisconsin from Liverpool.
May 24th 1890. Before leaving my native land my mother and sisters and brothers received me kindly, and bade me farewell although mother remarked I would be as dead to her. Never shall I forget the parting. Henry Hayes of Spanish Fork was made president of the company and I appointed secretary by President Teasdale. The company in which we sailed was one of the "test" companies, and we experienced such difficulty in getting the company pass muster [UNCLEAR] before the officials at Castle Garden, New York.
