"BRITISH EMIGRANTS. -- A company of British Saints sailed from Liverpool per S. S. Wisconsin of the Guion Line, on Aug. 31st, for New York, en route to Utah. This company numbered 172 souls, and included nine returning missionaries, together with Mr. and Mrs. William Haigh; Mr.and Mrs. Joseph Lawson; Mr. William Grimsdell and his grand-daughter, Miss Emily Hillam; Mrs. Lovina Morris; Mrs. Sarah Singleton, and Mrs. Sarah F. Wheeler. The individuals named have been engaged in visiting relatives in England and in attending to genealogical business. The usual company organization was effected, Elder William P. Payne holding the office of president. We trust the journey may be accomplished in safety, under the protecting care of the Almighty."

"Sat. 31. [Aug. 1889] -- The steamship Wisconsin sailed from Liverpool, England, with 172 Saints, including nine returning missionaries, and 10 visitors, in charge of William P. Payne. The company arrived in New York Sept. 11th, and continued the journey by rail the following day. The train on which they traveled over the Norfolk, and Western Railway., was wrecked early in the morning of Sept. 15th, near Lynchburg, Virginia; several of the emigrants were hurt, but none killed. The company arrived in Salt Lake City Sept. 20th."
