June 23, 1889President George Teasdale.
Dear Brother,--In compliance with your request we submit the following in behalf of the company of Latter-day Saints now on board the S. S. Wisconsin, off Queenstown.
We left Liverpool about 4:15 p.m. yesterday. The Channel being smooth, the weather mild and the day bright and clear, we began our voyage, as the Saints generally do, by singing hymns of praise to God and songs of farewell to old England, &c. We also entertained ourselves quite freely with the music of the violin, cornet, &c., thus making a pleasant time for ourselves as well as for many of our friends on board; and we must say, all things considered, we spent a very pleasant afternoon and evening.
About 6 p.m. President [John W. F.] Volker called the elders together, and assigned to each his duty as overseers of the various wards into which the Saints were divided, and gave them instructions to see that everything was kept clean, and to assist the Saints when it was necessary. He also appointed the hours of prayer, &c.
The ship's officers are very kind to us, and the Saints feel well satisfied with their lot.
Later on some of the Saints began to feel indisposed, and today we find three or four who are slightly seasick. But under all circumstances we feel to say "All is well". Our Father is at the helm.
We must also mention the kindness of our fellow-passengers, for they are exceptionally kind to us.
We will arrive at Queenstown about 2 p.m. With kind regards and a hearty "God bless you," we remain
