Ship Arkwright,New York Harbor,July 6, 1866.Mr. B. [Brigham] Young, Junior.
Dear Sir, - At the conclusion of my first voyage with a cargo of Latter-day Saints I cannot refrain from expressing my regret in parting with Elders Wixom, Luff, and Folsom, who have presided over those on board the ship Arkwright. They have behaved as gentlemen at all times, and I have had no trouble at all with the ship's passengers; indeed, I never went a voyage with less responsibilities, so far as passengers are concerned; and I shall only be most happy to convey another load of Latter-day Saints on my ship at your earliest convenience. - I remain, sir, yours very respectfully,[p.509]
Daniel P. Caulkins,Captain of the Arkwright.
