S. S. Nevada, Queenstown, June 27, 1886, 10 a.m.President D. [Daniel] H. Wells.
Dear Brother,--About 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 26, the good old ship Nevada began her journey with her precious cargo of 426 Saints, including 18 returning elders, besides some 300 other passengers. Our company was soon organized into a number of divisions, with one elder and assistants to preside over each.
We have had a very pleasant night; no seasickness, and all met promptly for breakfast. The sea is as smooth as glass and the weather fine and agreeable. The accommodations are as good as could be desired, and there is ample room for all.
The Saints feel happy and fully satisfied with the treatment they are receiving, and we have heard of no complaints from any quarter. The captain, officers and crew are kind and obliging, and everything seems to work smoothly and agreeably. The purser has given us the privilege of holding service or entertaining the Saints in any other way that we please, and we intend holding two meetings this afternoon; one for the English Saints and one for the Scandinavians.
The brethren all wish to be kindly remembered to you and all the brethren and Saints who know them. With kindest regards to all at "42," [42 Islington] and praying for our mutual welfare and happiness,
We remain your brethren in the gospel.
