“Thursday, April 29. . . . The steamship ‘Furnesia’ sailed from Glasgow, Scotland, with a company of 87 Saints on board, bound for America. The company embraced 40 emigrating Saints from the Swiss and German Mission, 28 from the British Mission and 9 from the Netherlands Mission. The returning Elders were Carl Haweler and Chas. [Charles] W. Rogers from the Swiss and German Mission and Thos.[Thomas] Greenhalgh, D [BLANK SPACE] E. Price, Ellis J. Ellis, James Holley and Albert Collard [WRITTEN IN PEN, from the British Mission] (Orig. Doc.)” [BMMH, 1897]. “In the company with which Elder [Thomas] Williams returned there were quite a number of emigrating Saints from Germany, Switzerland and Wales, together with ten returning Elders. They sailed from Glasgow, April 29th, and had a fairly good voyage, Elder Williams in charge and Elder W. C. Rogers of this city [Salt Lake City] assisting” [DN, 54:716].
