“Another company of 20 emigrating Saints left Copenhagen July 16, [1896], accompanied by Elders John A. Carlson of Logan, Math. Anderson of Stirling, and Canute Peter Hansen of Ephraim, Utah, returning Elders. On the same day, Elder Louis J. Holther, sen., who had labored as a missionary in Norway, left Christiania, homeward bound.” [HSM, 352]
“Thursday, July 23. . . . The steamship ‘Anchoria’ sailed from Glasgow, Scotland, with
36 Saints on board, bound for Utah. The company consisted of 31 emigrants (3 from the British and 28 from the Scandinavian Mission) and 5 Elders returning from missions, namely, Anthon H. Lund, (late president of the European Mission), John A. Carlson, Mads Anderson, Louis Hother and C [BLANK SPACE] P. Hansen. Elder C [Carlson was in charge of the company IS WRITTEN IN]. “Mr. Ramsden, shipping agent from Liverpool, had come to Glasgow [to] bid farewell to President [Anthon H.] Lund. A fine state room was given him on board the ship by Mr. Atkinson, of the Anchor Line Steamship Co. They entertained President Lund and party to dinner on board the ship at a table to themselves. Mr. Ramsden gave President Lund several pictures of his deceased father, who had enjoyed the most friendly relations with President Lund. The ship started for America in the evening. The ship arrived safely in New York August 3rd. Upon his arrival in New York President Lund went to mission headquarters and visited with the brethren Elder Samuel W. Richards was not in but Elder [BLANK SPACE] Watts received him and accompanied him to a Hotel. (A. H. Lund)” [BMMH, 1896].
