“A company of 31 emigrating Saints left Copenhagen Sept. 20, [1894], in charge of Elder Charles J. Wahlquist. In this company were also Elders Nils Monson, Peter Hansen, Fred C. Olsen and Torkel Evan Torkelsen, who had performed faithful missionary labors in Scandinavia. The little company traveled by steamship to Leith, Scotland, thence by rail to Glasgow, and crossed the Atlantic in the ship “City of Rome” together with Elders and emigrating Saints from England, Elder Wahlquist being in charge of the company to Utah.” [HSM, 337]
“Thursday, September 27. The steamship ‘City of Rome’ sailed from Glasgow, Scotland, with 57 Saints on board, bound for Utah. The company consisted of 49 emigrants (21 from the British and 28 from the Scandinavian Mission) and 7 Elders returning from missions, namely, Charles J. Wahlquist, Frederick C.
